Riding Through Changing Seasons

Riding through changing seasons enhances special sights, sounds, smells and other senses that make us whole and happy.

The current change from summer to fall is one of my personal favorites. On my early morning commute ride, there is less light now and cooler, crisper refreshing  temps for the most part. I especially enjoy this change after a summer of hotter temps and longer days.

In late fall, winter and early spring, I am fortunate to ride as the sun rises. This is a time of day with the most dramatic light and color especially on clear mornings.

Changing and falling leaves are amazing to ride through. Their rustic scent and bright colors are truly invigorating.

Be careful of slippery wet leaves on trails, paths and roads. Deeper into the season, they become icy and even more slippery with morning frosts.

With temps during the day dropping into the 50s and 60s F in October, you may choose to swap out a sleeveless summer jersey for a long sleeve jersey or wear a dri-wick, long-sleeve shirt under a short-sleeve shirt or sleeveless jersey.

Finally, mix in seasonal favorites that offer a healthy change of taste, including pumpkin spice coffee and fresh apple pies. In early fall ride to a pick your own vegetable and fruit farms and fill up your panniers or baskets.
