Bicycling Alone is Not Enough Exercise

Longevity experts speak about the critical importance of strength training as well as aerobic conditioning to one’s overall health and wellbeing.

Commuting to Work

Cyclists need to be careful to strength train independently in addition to riding a bicycle. Although riding a bicycle provides an outstanding aerobic workout, it does not provide strength training especially to the body’s core.

If one thinks that bicycling provides a well-rounded workout, they fail to develop their core and risk injury.

The core of the body is the central part of the body that includes the lower back, pelvis, hips, and stomach. It’s also known as the trunk.

Core muscles include:

  • Abdominal muscles
  • Pelvic floor muscles
  • Back muscles
  • Diaphragm, the muscle that controls breathing

After taking time off from the health club, I am planning my return for later this week. After spending almost all my time on the stationary peloton bicycle at the club, I’m planning on doing core exercises for health reasons in addition to the peloton.
