I had a good year bicycling in 2023. The main highlight included riding my bicycle, a Fuji Absolute 1.7, to my place of employment. I also pulled a Burley d’Lite trailer with equipment each day that I worked.

As a commuter for several years, I have been able to save money from minimizing a car in my life. At the end of the year, I invested this hard-earned savings into a hybrid Toyota Prius C.

In mid January we had a cold snap in the Upper Midwest where temps fell to bitterly cold -9 F. I rode to work layered up and with handwarmers. There is a special, pristine beauty in the outdoors at these temperatures.

Once again riding outdoors through the seasons continued to be deeply special and included seeing the sparking snow in the brilliant sunshine with deep blue sky in winter, riding in the arboretum in spring and smelling the lovely lilacs, riding in Northwestern Michigan on the scenic Heritage and Leelanau Trails to the most refreshing and very best swimming in the region in summer and observing the bright and amazing autumnal colors throughout the region in fall.
