Getting Out for a Ride

The temperatures were in the low 40s F in mid afternoon today in Madison, WI. However, skies were mostly spectacularly sunny. Roads and paths have been in great riding condition. In all a good day for a ride.

Pearl Izumi Outfit

I dressed for a ride, including in my Pearl Izumi tights, cycling shorts and elite top. I purchased the outfit at a nice discount on eBay to bolster my riding attire for cooler spring and fall days just like today.

After getting dressed and filling my water bottle, I rode off the tarmac thinking of riding the Arboretum loop, which is wonderfully scenic year-round although the magnificent magnolia blooms are still out a few weeks.

Half way out I veered to the right and followed the Edgewood College loop up the scenic rise with tree canopies from Lake Wingra to the main campus.

You’ll see three loops on this route on the map above. If you are becoming bored riding out and backs, I recommend broadening one’s horizons and covering more varied and interesting spaces to improve ride quality. Your senses, including sound, sight and smell will approve.

I began to feel so much better after getting a ride in my day. It seems to relieve stress as well as it rejuvenates me with each stroke of the pedal.

The next three days are warming up to the 60s F and I plan to be out on wildly entertaining hour-long lunch rides at midday for the first half of the week.

Ride on!
