The Joy of Riding Excellent Infra With a Good Road Bicycle

I had an invigorating 50K ride this Tuesday morning out to the fringes of the Southwestern WI countryside. Conditions were lovely with temps in the low 70Fs with mostly sunny skies.

Tuesday I rode out of town on the Southwest Commuter Trail (SWCT) to Military Ridge Trail (MRT) and CTY HWY PB to Whalen Road and to Badger State and back to town on Cannonball.

On Thursday once again the weather was perfect for a ride with temps again in the low 70s with mostly sunny skies. My biofeedback indicated, however, that I needed to cut the ride short so I pulled into the Arboretum for the wondrous three-mile winding ride with a few rollers.

Tunnel on Wingra Parkway

On my way to the Arboretum from Tenney Park, I counted six tunnels on the trails. I like to see balanced design in upper (bridges) and lower (tunnels) infra decisions. I think it makes for more varied and interesting riding.

The majestic wood and refreshingly cool shade was magnificent as dots of sunlight poured in through the trees. On the exit I made a left on Seminole Hwy to take on a challenging, steep and winding climb with a invigorating descent down to Cannonball Trail.
