Rain, Heat and Concrete

I have been riding by the new Public Market on the corner of E Johnson St and First St. Based on my observations over the past couple of months, I have become deeply disappointed in the grossly excessive use of concrete in the construction of the market.

I expected city planning to observe new green norms for projects. But as you can see from these photos, new concrete was poured to cover most of the land. This huge amount is not only unnecessary but also dangerous and harmful for all users.

Rain will not be saturated in the dirt or soil. It will flood streets and cause significant damage. The suns rays will reflect highly adversely and harmfully on all market users here.

The surface doesn’t need to be concrete. We have been experiencing increasing flooding in this area due to poor design, including too few sewer drains and clogged with debris sewer drains.

We should use soils and mulches to absorb rain and also deaden the suns impact and turn down the heat at the market. We need to design with our planet in mind with infinitely more natural resources.
