Minding the Commute

Commuting on Shores of Lake Monona

Riding my bicycle to and from my place of employment for a total of 20 miles or 5 miles each way 4 times per day for a total of 102 minutes each weekday, I think various thoughts.

Sometimes my back, hip, knee or wrist aches and I’m thinking about that pain, but I’ve also taken to getting more sleep at night which quiets this sometime noisy biofeedback.

I’m now getting 9-10 hours most nights and feel little to no pain. When we’ve been commuting for a significant amount of time, it becomes more and more about sacrificing for the commute in our life style, including sleep, diet and time.

Riding Through and Away From Arthritis

I ride through the pain of arthritis or other ailments to the other side where there is no or little pain sometimes further on than one hopes but offering comfort from self-produced adrenaline, endorphins, serotonin, dopamine and other miracle so-called happy chemicals produced by us when riding that heel for various periods of time.

Sometimes when I’m riding I think about how good it will feel to have my feet up on the ottoman or standing at the expresso-bar table watching the big screen.
