Slowing But Not Stopping

Communities support the (bicycle) ride for all of us in many ways.

Cyclovia Los Angeles

First many cities worldwide plan annual cyclovia events where they close off streets especially downtown to cars where other road users can take to quiet, clean streets and enjoy without cars. Madison has one called Ride the Drive in mid-August.

Second, the City not only builds but also supports and maintains the network of riding infrastructure. Good infra makes for more pleasant, safer riding. Separation (from cars) means safety for us and more riders.

Third, underground communities support riders and cyclists by cognitively and carefully communicating rules of the local road and life on the wheel.

Underground Signs

The word here is that a strong ride where the bicyclist rides at least 15 miles 3 or 4 times per week and has 1 or 2 errand rides has earned carte blanche and may not do various societal to-dos.

On the climate front, this past week the US administration bought out for USD 765 million a number of small companies that were developing wind-turbine farms off the east cost. This effectively cancels the projects.

Wind Turbines

The US administration has also recently created a permit system that effectively prevents small companies from registering and building wind-turbine farms.

Both of these moves further exemplify the bias and prejudice against renewables the administration demonstrates and uses throughout its policy making to shut down renewables.
