Three is the Charm

I’m reviewing my riding for last week in Strava and I totaled only three rides.

After surviving the academic year with 20-mile commutes round trip, I’ve decided to rest a bit for the First Day of School and another year of 20-mile commutes daily.

My favorite part of summer besides the sunshine and warm not hot temperatures is riding my road bike.

I have to say that effectively training on a 20-mile commute with a heavier aluminum bicycle pulling a Burley trailer with equipment and gear sometimes through snowbanks and black ice has prepared me to relatively fly alone on the super light approximately 17 lbs road bike.

Remember to be careful out there in the hot weather especially. Hydrate and stay hydrated throughout your day. This means at least 6-8 16 oz glasses of water per day.

If you fail to hydrate properly, you may begin to suffer from recurring headaches or ongoing muscle fatigue, etc.

Consider adding a second bottle cage to your bicycle for more life-saving and life-preserving water when you are on the wheel for a longer period of time than one hour.

Seriously consider riding early in the morning before 9 am. You’ll miss the hottest part of the day. Look at wearing looser clothing, including sleeveless jerseys to keep cooler.

Heat is the leading cause of weather-related deaths in the United States. It can also make you flushed, irritable and more flustered in math calculations.
