Day by Day Riding with Momentum

Setting a goal for total miles ridden per day, per month or per year can make your bicycle riding far more productive.

I use Strava app where I select my goal for the year. Under progress, the app keeps track of my miles and tells me how many more miles l need to reach my goals.

Obviously it is far easier to break down your year goal to month by dividing by twelve to show you how you are doing on a monthly or weekly basis.

I am adding an increase of ten percent of miles per week for even more progress and to gain during summer’s exceptional weather.

Especially in the summer, area organizations offer events/races sometimes to raise money for worthy causes.

You can use these events to train if you like.  If, for example, the event is up to 300k but you want to train for 200k, start training in May or early June riding 20-30 miles, or whatever number you are at, twice during the week and one longer ride on the weekend that you increase by ten percent weekly until event/race day.

You don’t need to ride 200k in training but get to 70-80 percent of that amount to make sure you can finish the event/race.
