Why are so many politicians either not talking at all or in a very low priority regarding climate change?

Politicians think voters will believe that climate change solutions will cost them too much money so they conveniently ignore it.
This is an utterly false myth perpetuated by the oil and fossil-fuel lobby to protect their wealth and precarious, threatened standing in our current economy.
James Talarico is an example of how many politicians are corrupted by oil and gas and other fossil fuels.
Yes he is the first democratic senator-elect from Texas in 32 years but he largely won by switching his principle position of not taking money from oil and fossil fuels. In 2022 he refused. Now he is on takes.

The truth is it is exorbitantly more expensive to taxpayer voters to pay for the cleanup from increasing in intensity and frequency extreme weather events.
Fossil fuels cause wildfires, floods and sea-level rise among other things.
For example, the combined costs for Harvey, Irma, and Maria alone totaled $339.2 billion.

This is almost half what the US pays for social security annually.
A true and just accounting and audit of the cost of these extreme weather events is needed.
All too often “green scam” criticism ignores theses very real costs to us that will certainly grow exponentially as we deepen our dangerous and deadly dependence on oil and fossil fuels and as a result increase our greenhouse gas emissions violating global standards.

We need to rejoin the Paris Agreement that calls for emissions levels to safe and secure levels for our and our children’s and grandchildren’s posterity as well as begin once again on a roadmap to converting our energy economy to viable and reliable renewables in the not too distant future smoothly without adversely affecting US GDP.
