Madison Has to Wait Until 2031 for Operating Passenger Rail

Since mid-January, the City of Madison has been unpacking its presentation of 8 possible train station sites in Madison.

But most importantly to residents the final location will only become fully operational with a train arriving and departing in 2031.

Below is a response from the study team.

Hello,
It may be possible to shorten this time frame by a year or two, but given the need for environmental review, engineering and design of not just the station, but the route connecting to the station, our team believes that 2031 is a realistic timeframe for a Madison station and the connecting route–initially from Chicago/Milwaukee and likely later to the Twin Cities–to be operational.

Thank you,
– The Madison Station Study Team
