Early Sunday morning I rolled out onto the Tart trail in Traverse City, MI and picked up the Leelanau Trail north toward Sutton’s Bay. I’m summering on the scenic and beautiful Northwestern part of the lower Peninsula in MI.

Monday morning I rode the Leelanau Trail again. There were no sightings of wildlife except for a lovely doe that walked up to the trail before darting back into the wood.

It’s rained almost daily, so I was relieved to have packed a rag to wipe down the bicycle drive train, brakes, cables, etc. and a bottle of lubricant to keep the chain properly lubricated. Between downpours, I wipe down the chain and add only 2 or 3 drops of lubricant. Work it in with one ride then wipe off the excess. If we don‘t, chains rust or become corroded.

We‘re planning a big ride to the National Sleeping Bear Dunes Heritage Trail later this week. We’ll do an out and back from Empire to Glen Arbor. I like to ride past the towering dunes and stop in Glen Arbor for cold brews. The ride is all paved not far from Lake Michigan shoreline with some fun turns and climbs.
