American science is under attack and at high risk due to deep and ongoing cuts by the current administration to NSF. NIH, NOAA and other vital programs.

These debilitating funding cuts are forcing to discontinuance and even closure of vital and critical research infinitesimally crucial to our nation’s interests, including our coveted state and Ivey league research-program bases.

The administration think this will lead to more resilience in American science. But it appears very clear to this impartial observer that such deep cuts are irreversible in our world of completion. Sadly other countries will move on to compete and to lead.

And furthermore as result of these ongoing cuts, the US has admittedly lost its century-long competitive advantage in inter alia driving new and essential products to market for success.

For now 2026 cuts are even deeper cutting NSF funding by 56 percent alone, NIH by 39.3 percent and NOAA by over USD 600 million according to a recent article in The NY Times app.

In a related article, Congress is calling for an approximate 4 percent budget cut to Science while Trump and the executive branch are seeking an approximate 33 percent cut to Science.

Congress has a fiscally responsible blue print, but ultimately the president of the executive branch needs to sign the corresponding appropriations bill into law.

The president might veto the bill. Congress may override with of course a two-thirds majority vote in each house which with a Republican majority in each house is highly unlikely. Compromise on the amount of the cut is far more likely.
