Run winter studded tires for safety and peace of mind on scattered snow and ice. We received an inch or so of snow throughout the day yesterday.
It was just enough for bicycles and pedestrians to pack it down on paths where it froze over night into dangerous ruts.
Less than 2 inches of snow is not cleared by the city although it is dangerous to ride on or walk on sans proper equipment.
Based on past experience, I took 30 minutes before my New Year’s ride and swapped in my Schwalbe Marathon Winter Plus tire on the front wheel for better control on snow and ice. Glad I did as there were several long stretches, including turns, of rutted frozen ice and snow on the trails and paths this morning.
With my studded winter tire, I logged my first ride of the year with a safe, enjoyable ride without getting hurt by falling on ice.
