Author’s note: This blog copying two emails to the Mayor’s office was gathered with my bicycle on a blessed detour from my commitment to the preferred PR site. The alternate site was covered walking. Active Transportation Advocacy practicing and working.
Dear Mayor Satya,
This afternoon I walked around and observed the preferred train station site at 1 West Wilson. Overall my impression was negative.

The site is really not right for a PR train station. As you know, there is a large art deco office tower contrasting inharmoniously and problematically with the Monona Terrace Convention Center of the Wrightien 1960s. From my genuine view, this site is very crowded and chaotic.

Finally, at present there is only one rail below the tiers from 1 W Wilson to John Nolan Drive. The project needs at least 2 rails – 1 for freight and 1 for passenger rail.

Please kindly seriously consider moving the project at your early convenience to a far more appropriate and complete site at the confluence of First Street.

Dear Mayor Satya,
Like you, I have been following the train site location question.
After observing the preferred site at 1 W Wilson, I am deeply concerned by the quality of experience our fellow passengers will endure.
It is my understanding that the tiers between John Nolan and 1 W Wilson may dictate that the trail rails and station are on different levels. This would likely make travel more cumbersome for rail users.
Furthermore, the flow of traffic downtown on narrow streets with many stops is problematic and will lead to unnecessary traffic delays.
In contrast, the alternative at this time First Street site has robust, thriving and open road and path arteries flowing all around the rail yard.
The area is spacious, flat and open on all sides.
Sincerely yours,
Richard Sleder
