Rides are to be measured by quality not quantity, according to Rule 68 of Velominati.
My current commute that I brokered almost five years ago contains several elements of the above rule.
First I had been initially commuting for only a little over a mile four times per day.
It was too short for me. By the time I was warming up and feeling good behind the wheel, I was arriving at my destination to dismount.
Second my current route is significantly longer, i.e., over five miles four times per day. 100 miles per week. This is a fair workout and I feel better riding it.

Third, my current commute is decorated with wonderful scenery along a lake shore, bay shore and quiet picturesque streets, etc.
Amazingly all the ride infrastructure over five miles is separate and safe from cars. This is the quality element that convinced me to take on this commute.

Back in the gear of my weekday commuter routine. Today is the first day of school, so I hitched up the Burley with my equipment to my new Trek FX1 SL4 for the first time.
I checked beforehand a couple days ago that when reversing the quick release spindle that I can run safely the Burley. All is good.

The ride in was wonderful this morning. I rolled out a couple of minutes after sunrise and ran my red, rear light. Clouds inhibited the quality of the sunrise however.
The streets were mostly quiet. More runners than bicycles. I rode through a long detour downtown but I didn’t lose any time.
